With Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, the world is shown once again that our planet’s future has been put on the back burner, as it has been for years. But the pot is about to boil over. The worst part is not the destruction and depletion that we will surely face- it’s the fact that it all could have been prevented. Mounting scientific evidence and warning signs were ignored by those who had the power to make a change. There is no going back now. The harsh reality we must accept, is that our beautiful Earth will soon be paying the price for our actions. Writers often use figures of speech to make their story more interesting. Three examples of that would be:A. The euphemism: the writer uses their words carefully while talking about a heavy subject.B. The hyperbole: the writer exaggerates to emphasize the subject.C. The metaphore: the writer creates an image in order to describe something or someone.

“No one signed up for the extra mathematics lesson and therefore it was cancelled.”

Read the following sentences. 1. The government is launching an investigation to bring justice to Steven Avery, the wrongfully convicted man who is the main focus of this documentary. (1), mister Avery’s lawyer is working round the clock to make sure his client can return to his normal life. 2. We all know junk food and candy is harmful to our children’s health. This knowledge has led to unhealthy food products being moved onto higher up supermarket shelves and being sold in less colorfol packaging. (2), nothing is being done about companies targeting children with loud, cheerful and tempting commercials for those same products. It is high time we put a halt to kid commercials.

The Great British Weather

SIR - Having read your article on economics and religion (“Holy relevance”, October 29th), I'd like to propose the weather as a historical indicator of a nation's ___1___ and prosperity.

If Britain enjoyed warm temperatures and 300 days of sun a year, would its people so easily accept enclosing themselves in a workshop, factory or office for eight or so hours every weekday, even if it led to increased prosperity? Isn't life too short not to be enjoyed?

If the Greeks woke up four days out of five to find the sun was nowhere to be seen, with rain and wind more than probable, would they still opt for leisurely lunches on patios, noontime naps and short working days? One may as well stay inside and work, there's little else to do.

How would these two countries' economic destinies be different today had they gone through history with the other's weather patterns?

2. The idea of a computer deciding what information to show me based on my demographic fills me with horror. Such a method is only useful if you fit the social expectations built up by the search engine’s database. If you are unclassifiable or are looking for something odd, profile-matching will not help. A solution is to let the search engine build up a better picture of you, ... 2 ... I don’t feel comfortable sharing all my personal details in the hope that it will provide a better answer.

3. Search engines are what change the Internet from a pile of computer components into an incredible resource. People rarely have the patience to go through more than the first few hits, so the way pages are ranked is extremely important in deciding what information people have access to.

4. We are being forced into one of a few easy-to-label groups for the convenience of computers, and if your needs don’t fit in with the majority then you miss out.

5. I am not a label, I am a human being. I don’t want a search engine to do my thinking for me, any more than I would want an encyclopedia to do it. Computers are still only tools and are much less intelligent than most people give them credit for.

"Helen Mirren starred in blockbuster The Queen a few years back. Her accent was spot on, marvelous, and her acting performance was even more impressive. So, let us all bow to the true queen of movies.
Don Cheadle played in several British movies, thus taking several attepts at different British accents. He followed Van Dyke's example a few years earlier when he won a BAFTA.
Les Miserables star Russel Crow has played in several British movies, and although his accent is not reminiscient of Colin Firth's, it must be said it is at least admirable.
Apart from actors, many non-UK singers also try to sing with a British accent. Some more successful than others, but no one thought to apologize before releasing their albums."

The Monster of Loch NessThe Scottish Highlands are famous for their downpoor of rain, beautiful mountains, large herds of livestock, and their lakes. Loch Ness is the one that attracts most tourists. It is a rather large and deep freshwater lake of 23 miles. The Loch Ness monster (referred to as Nessie by believers) is its resident. It has been sighted 1500 years ago, in 565 A.D., by an Irish monk called Saing Columba. Since then, a legend was born.
